I have always had imperial sympathies, I have always believed in conquering.
A lot of my teenage and early adulthood (as if I've reached it yet...) frustrations, complexes and mistakes resulted from my misunderstanding of what empire-building means and what empires - and emperors - are there. Often, like nearly every other man, I suppressed the right imperial urges and heeded the wrong ones.
At some point, I even seemed to think - go on, laugh if you will! - that I can build a little one around myself. Then I realised that we humans are an imperial species by nature*. Our independence won't be maintained, our alliances will not suffice. The homage we'll pay is just a question of time. Whether it will be by one or the other empire, we will be conquered.

So it makes perfect sense to surrender to the one we prefer as soon as possible – and then join in expanding it.
Fascinating: Maat paying homage to Hathor**
**I’ve long been a enthusiastic fan of ancient pagan (to simplify things) religions, but the more I find out the stronger believer I become. Here, in a profound – I believe – insight, truth, balance, order, law, morality, and justice commit to serve joy, feminine love, and motherhood
