Today’s
Woman’s Hour** featured an item on whether women go well with philosophy (they
do, if you ask me; aesthetically). Some research was mentioned which apparently
shows there is a spot of jolly old sexual harassment going on around the
very few female students of the super subject. Well, I don’t know what serves
as a philosophical drive for the guys who pester their more shapely colleagues,
but I do know there is one thing that good philosophy teaches you: when you see
beauty, you single-mindedly, relentlessly and mercilessly go after it; or her if you insist on all that funny gender equality business.
*or it, if you insist on all that funny gender equality business.
**those womenfolk
on Women’s Hour can be so funny. Among all their valid and important points, they
just have to throw in something that will make any man burst out in a derisive
patriarchal laughter. (I’m not talking about the topic discussed, kind of, above: women and philosophy
are an extremely serious proposition; not even wine can claim to be able to topple
it, just sway a little at most).
