Indictement (You have to win elections)

(A while ago, in the popular lefty haunt, the Brave New World cafe in New World - or Nowy Świat - Street in Warsaw; Lech lager at PLN6/pint till 6p.m., a very good price for cenral W-w.)

In the middle of a high-powered discussion concerning the current* - unfortunate - situation in Poland, after it had been pointed out how crucial, desperately needed reforms were tactically delayed by politicians, which was causing incalculable hurt, loss and frustration to local citizenry**; after numerous and painful examples of wounds inflicted on the economy by politics; after a complete (intellectual only, I'm afraid) thrashing of the country's political system (which simply followed from the previous points), former Prime Minister of Poland John Christopher Bielecki said: "That's all true. But you have to win elections."

It struck me then - which I told Mr Bielecki - that he'd managed to offer such a neat explanation of all the woes - along with the conclusive criticism and the basis for its upcoming, &inescapable, indictement.

(Talking about Democracy, of course)

Sure. Plus 'go bankrupt'.

*the then current (I know: I'm not a native speaker).
**why not? I'm an old-fashioned conservative, after all.
**say, "I love therefore I exist." (Loving trumps thinking, which makes it a better foundation for proving existence; there are other reasons too, most of them you can quite easily guess; more soon... or, more reallistically: at sime point - if nature doesn't get me first.)
