A good shepherd


 

'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock'* Jeremiah 31: 10 - 13


On the slope of a Romanian mountain that I am passing there is a flock of sheep tended by a middle-aged man. It makes me think of a sermon I heard at St Ann's in Warsaw.

When I was once on a trekking holiday in Romania*”, said the priest, “we met some shepherds who told us that a good shepherd never looks for a lost sheep, because if it rejoined the herd it would encourage the others to go astray. And if he somehow does find the animal, he kills it".
