The Opening Ceremony: just like my blog

Dancers perform during Opening Ceremony

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

It looked as if someone used my blog for the opening ceremony.

An overspilling and overmixed bag that hasn't decided which it wants more: to do serious or funny. I know that life can be like that, but an opening of the olympic games should be a bit more focused than life.

All in all, even though it wasn't as bad as the Materna&Wojewódzki disaster that 'celebrated' Poland's taking over of the EU 'presidency', it was a flop, too.

An unexpected bonus is that the event was a great illustration of Europe's demise and partly an illustration of the reasons. One couldn't help, but think of what and why went wrong with the continent as the lengthy show moved from quaint, inspired and elevated through mixed-up, flashy and decadent to empty, materialistic and messed-up.

The saving grace may have been the fact that it started and ended (the main show, before the parade of national teams) on a religious note.

More soon.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
                                                              In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
