No Dictator will overthrow Ali.

The Dictator may have arrived, but Ali G still rules.

One of my pupils showed me the trailer of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Dictator and it was funny, which makes me happy. It was hard not to expect loads of intricate comedy after Ali G, but what the guy has made since then is primitive and disappointing, and nothing comparable to the sophistication of the young upstart from the inner city gettho of Stains.

I was lucky not to have made acquaintance of Brüno, so I won’t be making any gay-bashing comments, but the cheap ‘mockery’ of the US at the hands of that ‘Kazakh’ journalist in the tale including the Cultural Learning of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of K. was a massive failure of a box-office hit. There may have been a few good ideas there, e.g. Throw the Jew Down the Well!*’ and the whole Pamela Anderson strand, but all in all the film was one big let-down. Let's  see now if The Dictator will manage to make Borat a disappeared character.

*Not funny? I’m sure Sacha would get it.
