(It's just a man-made bulb. Too scared to look at the Sun?)
Swallowing my intellectual pride, today I'm going to try to squeeze in and have a listen to a musical outfit that promotes in its name and logo the beginnings of the
darkest era in Western civilisation, if it's still the same civilisation at
all: The Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment.
If I do get
in, I’ll be seriously tempted to challenge them to be reasonable and consistent: “Drop that offensive word! Or leave Bach alone!!”
But before I risk a confrontation with a certain ruthless local usherette*, I’ll probably realise
– myself or thanks to Someone else - that it is in darkness that we most need
light.
So I may ignore the vagaries of European thought and let the bright
music take me heavenwards.
And by the way, the Orchestra - from what I've heard (on the radio and an occasional CD) - is outstanding. And it definitely deserves a better name.
(Speaking
of music and the E. word – join me, and hopefully a few others, for a potentially depressing occasion tomorrow
and listen to another star that that lit up a bit the ‘Enlightenment’ night.)
